You simply need to run after it, and the coupling of flight and blood loss will cause it to collapse from exhaustion eventually, defenseless. When the day, it's breath and blood steaming in the frigid air, sees your hand coming to hold it still, to grant it a merciful end, it will know you came prepared. Carpe diem indeed.
